Extension pack for Rust development in VS Code. Install one extension, get a complete toolchain.
What's included
| Extension | Purpose |
|---|---|
| rust-analyzer | Official Rust language server — completion, go-to-definition, inlay hints, refactoring, Clippy integration |
| CodeLLDB | Native debugger for Rust — breakpoints, watch expressions, pretty-printed types |
| Even Better TOML | Cargo.toml syntax, schema validation and formatting |
| Dependi | Inline crate versions, update hints and vulnerability warnings |
| Database Client | Query MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MongoDB and Redis without leaving the editor |
| Error Lens | Diagnostics rendered inline, at the end of the offending line |
| Todo Tree | Collects TODO / FIXME comments into a sidebar tree |
Requirements
Rust toolchain installed via rustup:
rustup component add rust-analyzer clippy rustfmt
Recommended settings
Clippy is not a separate extension — rust-analyzer runs it. Add to your workspace .vscode/settings.json:
{
"rust-analyzer.check.command": "clippy",
"editor.formatOnSave": true,
"[rust]": {
"editor.defaultFormatter": "rust-lang.rust-analyzer"
}
}
rust-analyzer.check.command swaps cargo check for cargo clippy, so lints appear inline on save.
Installation
From the Extensions view, search for Rustkins, or run:
