DeadCode++ is a VS Code extension for detecting potentially unused code and dependency problems in JavaScript and TypeScript projects.
DeadCode++ Explorer

It analyzes your project dependency graph and surfaces findings directly inside the VS Code Explorer.
Features
Unused File Detection
DeadCode++ identifies files that are not referenced by other files in your project.
Results are displayed directly in the Explorer sidebar.
Unused Export Detection
Detect exported functions, variables, classes, and other symbols that are not imported elsewhere.
DeadCode++ reports the export name, source file, and line number.
Click a result to jump directly to the relevant source code.
Circular Dependency Detection
Detect dependency cycles such as:
A.ts → B.ts → C.ts → A.ts
Circular dependencies are grouped into cycles in the DeadCode++ Explorer view.
Import Resolution
DeadCode++ currently understands:
- Relative imports
- TypeScript files
- JavaScript files
- TSX and JSX
@/aliases- Re-exports
- Barrel exports
- Dynamic
import() - React lazy imports
Framework Awareness
DeadCode++ includes framework-aware rules to reduce false positives in projects such as Next.js.
Framework-managed files and exports are treated differently from ordinary application code where supported.
Usage
- Open a JavaScript or TypeScript project in VS Code.
- Open the Explorer.
- Find the DeadCode++ section.
- Click the scan/refresh button.
- Review the detected issues.
Results are grouped into:
- Scan Summary
- Unused Files
- Unused Exports
- Circular Dependencies
Click supported findings to navigate directly to their source file.
You can also run:
DeadCode++: Scan Project
from the VS Code Command Palette.

Important
DeadCode++ performs static analysis.
Some code may be referenced through runtime behavior, framework conventions, generated code, dependency injection, reflection, or other patterns that cannot always be determined through static analysis.
For this reason, findings should be reviewed before deleting code.
DeadCode++ does not automatically delete detected code.
Current Status
DeadCode++ is currently in its initial 0.1.x release.
More framework rules, import-resolution strategies, and analysis capabilities are planned for future versions.
Feedback and Issues
If you encounter a false positive or a project structure that DeadCode++ does not understand correctly, please report it through the project's issue tracker.
These reports will help improve the analyzer.
