Setup
- Install the extension.
- Run Cognition: Set API Key from the command palette and paste your
cog_API key. Don't have one? Sign up at https://cognition.publicmcp.org/signup — your key is emailed as a one-time magic link. - The "Cognition Cloud" MCP server appears automatically in VS Code's MCP servers list — no
mcp.jsonediting needed. Your key is stored in VS Code Secret Storage, never in plaintext config.
Check the status bar item (right side) or run Cognition: Show Status any time.

Requirements

Privacy
Your API key is stored via the VS Code SecretStorage API (OS keychain). All traffic goes directly from VS Code to your Cognition Cloud server over HTTPS.
