Access your entire AI prompt library without leaving your editor. Search, insert, save, and organize prompts across Claude, GPT, Gemini, and more — all from the Command Palette or a keyboard shortcut.
Getting Started
Step 1 — Create a free account
Go to prompt-os-library.vercel.app and sign in with Google or GitHub.
Step 2 — Generate an API key
- Navigate to prompt-os-library.vercel.app/settings
- Scroll to the API Keys section
- Click Create Key, give it a name (e.g.
VS Code), and copy the key — it starts withpos_
Keep this key private. You can revoke and regenerate it from Settings at any time.
Step 3 — Sign in to the extension
- Open the Command Palette:
Ctrl+Shift+P(Windows/Linux) orCmd+Shift+P(Mac) - Run
PromptOS: Sign In - Paste your API key
You're ready. Your prompt library is now available inside VS Code.
Features
Search and insert prompts
Press Ctrl+Shift+, (Mac: Cmd+Shift+,) to open a fuzzy-search picker over your entire library. Select a prompt to insert it at your cursor — instantly.
Variable substitution
Prompts with {{variable}} placeholders will prompt you to fill in each value before inserting. Press Escape at any point to cancel without inserting.
Example: A prompt like Explain {{topic}} to a {{audience}} becomes interactive — the extension asks for topic and audience before inserting the completed text.
Save prompts from your editor
Highlight any text → right-click → Save as PromptOS Prompt to add it to your library without switching tabs.
Recent prompts
Re-use your last 20 prompts via PromptOS: Show Recent Prompts — no searching required when you're in a flow.
Collections sidebar
Open the PromptOS Collections panel in the Explorer sidebar (Ctrl+Shift+E) to browse your organized collections and insert prompts with a single click.

Requirements
- VS Code 1.80 or later
- A free PromptOS account
Troubleshooting
"Unauthorized" error on sign in
- Make sure you copied the full API key including the
pos_prefix - If the key is expired or revoked, generate a new one at prompt-os-library.vercel.app/settings
Prompts not loading / stale results
- Sign out (
PromptOS: Sign Out) and sign back in to refresh your session - Check your internet connection — the extension fetches from the PromptOS API
Shortcut conflict
- If
Ctrl+Shift+,conflicts with another extension, rebind it via File → Preferences → Keyboard Shortcuts and search forPromptOS: Search Prompts
