AtlasDB is a lightweight MySQL database explorer for Visual Studio Code.
It focuses on a practical MVP workflow: create secure MySQL connections, browse tables and views, inspect table structure, view and edit data, run SQL, and export results.
Features
- MySQL connection manager from the Activity Bar.
- Server-level connections that discover all databases accessible to the MySQL user.
- Secure password storage using VS Code SecretStorage.
- Database explorer with connections, databases, tables, views, fields, indexes, relationships and triggers.
- Table data viewer with:
- pagination
- column sorting
- basic SQL
WHEREfiltering - inline cell editing when the table has a primary key
- CSV and JSON export
- SQL query editor with:
- schema-aware completion for SQL keywords, tables and columns
- execution of the selected SQL or the full editor with
Ctrl/Cmd+Enter - multiple result-set tabs
- configurable result limits
- query cancellation
EXPLAINforSELECTandWITHqueries- CSV and JSON result export
- persistent history and named favorites
- Table structure viewer/editor for MySQL fields, indexes and foreign-key relationships.
- Visual table creator with primary keys, storage engine selection and SQL preview.
- Interactive ER diagram with relationship-aware layout, cardinality markers, PK/FK columns, draggable and collapsible tables, neighbor highlighting, fit-to-screen, zoom, pan, filtering and saved positions.
- AtlasDB Output Channel with query timings and errors.
Requirements
- VS Code compatible with the extension engine in
package.json. - A reachable MySQL server.
- A MySQL user with the permissions needed for the operations you run.
Basic Usage
- Open the AtlasDB Activity Bar view.
- Click Add Connection.
- Fill in the MySQL connection form. Leave Database name empty to browse every database the user can access, or enter one to open it directly.
- Save the connection.
- Expand the connection and database.
- Open Tables or Views.
- Click a table to view data.
- Use the table toolbar for pagination, sorting, filtering and export.
- Use AtlasDB: New Query to open the SQL editor. Run with the button or
Ctrl/Cmd+Enter; select part of the SQL to execute only that selection. - Use a database's context menu to create a table, and a table's structure view to manage fields and indexes.
- Use Open ER Diagram from a database to explore its relationships visually.
Current Limitations
- MySQL is the only implemented driver in v0.4.1.
- PostgreSQL and SQL Server are intentionally not supported yet.
- Table data editing requires a primary key.
- The
WHEREfilter accepts SQL text and relies on MySQL for validation. - Trigger editing is not implemented yet.
- Query cancellation closes the active MySQL connection; transactions running in that editor connection are rolled back by MySQL.
Roadmap
- Full trigger editor.
- Better column type picker.
- PostgreSQL support.
- SQL Server support.
- Safer migration previews for schema changes.
Development

Security Notes
AtlasDB never stores passwords in globalState and never logs passwords. Passwords are stored with VS Code SecretStorage.
