Blackglass gives VS Code a genuinely dark foundation without sacrificing the structure of your code.
The editor sits at #030405, with neighboring surfaces raised just enough to keep tabs, sidebars, panels, and menus distinct. Rich jewel tones separate syntax without the pale, chalky look common in pastel themes.

What it looks like
Blackglass uses color with a specific job in mind:
- Deep violet marks keywords and control flow.
- Burnished gold identifies functions and methods.
- Emerald separates strings and inserted content.
- Deep cyan highlights types, classes, and interfaces.
- Burnt orange picks out numbers, constants, and warnings.
- Dark orchid distinguishes parameters, properties, and decorators.
Comments, punctuation, inactive controls, and secondary text stay muted. The result is colorful code on a nearly black canvas, not a bright interface wearing a dark background.
Theme coverage
The theme includes colors for:
- The complete VS Code workbench and editor
- TextMate syntax highlighting
- Semantic tokens
- Integrated terminals and ANSI colors
- Git decorations, diffs, and merge conflicts
- Diagnostics, testing, and debugging
- Notebooks and output cells
- Bracket pairs, indentation guides, and minimaps
The palette stays consistent across languages while respecting the TextMate scopes and semantic tokens supplied by each language extension.

Recommended settings
Blackglass does not change your settings. These built-in VS Code options provide the intended bracket and semantic highlighting:
{
"editor.bracketPairColorization.enabled": true,
"editor.semanticHighlighting.enabled": true
}
Development
Clone the repository, open it in VS Code, and press F5. This launches an Extension Development Host with the local theme available in the color picker.
Validate and package the theme with:
npm install
npm run verify
npm run package
Feedback
If a language has unclear or inconsistent highlighting, open an issue and include a short code sample. Screenshots are useful when the problem involves workbench colors or contrast.
