Features

Search Everywhere

One omnibox for files, symbols, and commands — no more juggling Ctrl+P, Ctrl+Shift+O, and Ctrl+Shift+P separately.

  • Fuzzy matching across files, workspace symbols, and built-in/extension commands
  • Tab / Shift+Tab to switch categories without leaving the box
  • Default shortcut: Alt+P

Find in Files

A docked panel for searching across your workspace, backed by a real bundled ripgrep binary.

  • Case-sensitive, whole-word, and regex toggles
  • File mask filtering with ready-made presets (*.ts, *.tsx, *.py, *.json, ...)
  • Editable directory and file-mask fields that remember your recent choices
  • Inline, expandable context preview for every match — see the surrounding lines without opening the file
  • Default shortcut: Ctrl+Alt+F (Cmd+Alt+F on macOS)

Getting Started

  1. Install the extension.
  2. Press Alt+P for Search Everywhere, or Ctrl+Alt+F for Find in Files.
  3. Start typing — results update as you go.

Why

VS Code's built-in Quick Open, symbol search, and Find in Files are all separate, differently-styled tools. Search File brings them together with a single consistent, modern UI.

Requirements

None — the ripgrep binary used for Find in Files is bundled with the extension.
