Bring your organization's full data context into VS Code, Cursor, and Windsurf. Search the context layer, explore lineage, manage metadata, and connect any MCP-compatible AI assistant to Atlan — all without leaving your editor.
What you can do
- Search assets in natural language — find tables, columns, dashboards, glossary terms, and data products across your entire stack.
- Explore end-to-end lineage — trace data flow upstream and downstream across systems, right inside the editor.
- View rich asset details — owners, descriptions, tags, certifications, custom metadata, and column-level info.
- Connect AI assistants to Atlan — the extension auto-registers the Atlan MCP Server so GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, and any other MCP client can answer questions grounded in your governed data context.
- Update metadata in place — edit descriptions and certifications without switching tabs.
Getting started
- Install the extension.
- Click the Atlan icon in the Activity Bar.
- Sign in with your Atlan workspace, or run Atlan: Configure Connection (API Key) to use an API key instead.
- Start searching.
To generate an API key, go to your Atlan workspace → Account Settings → API Keys.
MCP Server setup
On first activation, the extension registers the Atlan MCP Server in your editor's MCP configuration so any MCP-aware AI assistant can use it. No manual setup needed.
If you ever need to re-register, run Atlan: Setup MCP Server from the command palette (Cmd+Shift+P).
Supported editors:
- VS Code (with GitHub Copilot or any MCP-compatible assistant)
- Cursor
- Windsurf
