CodeMap is a VS Code extension designed to help developers better understand AI-generated code changes before approving them.
Instead of blindly accepting code edits, CodeMap aims to show the structure, intention, and impact of proposed changes in a clear visual workflow.
This extension is currently in an early preview stage.
Why CodeMap?
AI coding tools are becoming faster and more powerful, but developers still need to understand what is being changed and why.
CodeMap is built around one simple idea:
Before code is changed, developers should be able to see the plan, understand the impact, and approve the direction.
This helps reduce blind dependency on AI-generated edits and makes code review more transparent.
Key Goals
CodeMap is being developed to help developers:
- Understand proposed code changes before applying them
- See which files and components may be affected
- Follow a step-by-step explanation of the change
- Review the reasoning behind each modification
- Approve changes with more confidence
