Use your 8080.ai sessions directly inside VS Code. The extension adds an 8080.ai panel to the Activity Bar, lets you sign in with your 8080.ai account, opens project sessions in editor tabs, and supports Developer Mode workflows from your local workspace.
Requirements
- VS Code 1.86 or later
- An 8080.ai account
- A Git-backed workspace for project sessions and Developer Mode
Install
Install 8080.ai from the Visual Studio Marketplace or from the Extensions view in VS Code.
After installation, open the 8080.ai icon in the Activity Bar or run 8080.ai: Login with 8080.ai from the Command Palette.
- Open the 8080.ai panel in the Activity Bar.
- Select Login with 8080.ai.
- Complete the browser sign-in flow.
- Return to VS Code after authentication finishes.
VS Code stores the 8080.ai session through its built-in authentication system. You can sign out at any time with 8080.ai: Logout of 8080.ai.
Sessions
The 8080.ai panel shows sessions for the current workspace. From the panel you can:
- Open an existing session in a VS Code editor tab
- Create a new session for the current project
- Rename or delete sessions
- Refresh the session list
- Open the related 8080.ai project in your browser
If a workspace is not linked to an 8080.ai project yet, the extension can link the current Git repository to your 8080.ai account when you create a session.
Developer Mode
Developer Mode lets 8080.ai work with the code in your current repository. In a session tab, you can ask for changes, plans, reviews, debugging help, or follow-up work.
During a Developer Mode run, the extension can show:
- Streaming responses from 8080.ai
- Plans and progress updates
- Tool activity
- Terminal command output
- File changes with additions and deletions
When 8080.ai proposes workspace edits, review the result in VS Code before continuing with normal Git review, testing, and commit steps.

Troubleshooting
If sessions do not appear, confirm that you are signed in and that the current VS Code window has a Git-backed workspace open.
If sign-in fails or your session expires, run 8080.ai: Logout of 8080.ai, then run 8080.ai: Login with 8080.ai again.
If Developer Mode cannot create or open a project, check that the repository has a remote origin and that your 8080.ai account has access to the linked project.
